Jeremy Scott
Trend: neon orange
Bright-orange nails might be a way to say 'Look at me!', but when they're matte and sleek they don't have to be garish. Miss Pop, the head nail technician at Jeremy Scott, used CND colours and stick-ons to create the look, so follow suit, if your nails can cope. The glitter fingers that echo being back in nursery school are entirely optional.

Paul Costelloe
Trend: two-tone pastels
"The simplicity of a fresh pastel manicure should not be underestimated for lifting your spirits. Plus, white suits all skin tones and makes nails appear longer,"explained Nicola Hammon, from iZ Beauty, the nail brand used by Sophia Stylianou at the Paul Costelloe show. To recreate the look, paint half of your nail a pale green shade and, on the other half, try a matte white.

Shrimps
Trend: bottle green
As clothing gets lighter and more floaty for spring/summer, try going darker, rather than more pastel, with your nails, as demonstrated at Shrimps. The chosen matte green shade, Nailberry's Viva La Vegan shade, £14.50, was grungy without being too gothic.

Helmut Lang
Trend: a new take on pink
Baby pink has long been a safe, traditional colour for your nails but, as Helmut Lang's show demonstrated, adding a "cool girl" edge is as simple as adding nail art. Keep it subtle, such as a single word, so that it becomes a blink and you'll miss it detail.
