How to Cut Baby Girl Hair

While some may argue that footwear or the fit of your clothing is the first thing people pay attention to, we'd beg to differ. Hair wields its own measure of power as a focal point. Just as the style of facial hair can spin quite the story — valid or not so valid — about your personality so, too, can your hair cut.

A questionable hairstyle can raise just as many eyebrows as a sub-par ensemble. Get acquainted with these classic men's 'dos, along with a few trending looks, to find your closest cut and what it might be saying about you — we'll leave the decision whether to go for a new look up to you.

1. The buzz cut

Perhaps one of the easiest hair cuts, the buzz is a sharp style that is no longer relegated to the military ranks. But despite its low-maintenance status, it is a no-nonsense cut that might just have people thinking you're more intense than laid back as well as diligent, active, and practical. You also may have others believing that you are no stranger to rigid schedules built around boot camps, CrossFit, and a triathlon or two. After all, this military-esque look leaves you with plenty of time for extra miles and bench presses. That said, the buzz is also a great cover-up if you have thinning hair to which the aforementioned personality traits may not apply.

2. The side part

A look inspired by the '50s and '60s, the side part is a fairly predominant, classic style that manages to stay current and contemporary. It may be one of most versatile 'dos as it can be worn with long or shorter hair, and it can walk both a conservative and a slightly bolder line. But, all in all, it's a pretty safe style, which is to say that your personality may follow suit. Wholesome, conventional, and responsible — maybe a bit predictable, that is until you decide to take your side part to the wilder side by sweeping longer strands to one side and chopping an undercut on the other.

3. The Afro

The glorious 'fro is not a 'do for any sort of shrinking violet. You celebrate the slightly wild side of your strands, and your personality is just as colorful. Let's just say you bring the party wherever you go, and you are likely a natural comedian. Everyone gravitates toward you, and you're always the first to hit the dance floor. Those with a shaped Afro or a modern hi-top fade a la Will Smith in his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air heyday may be even more apt to be the center of attention for their larger than life personalities — and equally statement-making, shaped 'fros.

4. The slick back

The slick back may be a timeless classic, but it's garnered a current reputation of show-off — and possibly slimy (and not just for the extra gloss of pomade product that's almost always visible). The wearer may be a bit high-maintenance while being accustomed to getting attention and getting what he wants — or doing whatever it takes to get it.

5. The new testament

Long, flowing New Testament locks might have all sorts of biblical connotations. But what that below-the-shoulders hair is really saying is that you're a hipster, you fly by the seat of your pants, and you make no excuses for it. Offbeat and creative, maybe even with an adventuring wilderness streak, the long Goldilocks guys have just enough chutzpah to push the envelope, while also riding a wave of lackadaisical, devil-may-care flair. This certainly is not a personality type that takes anything too seriously.

6. The natural texture

Going au naturel isn't a bad thing when it comes to a man's hair. After all, if you have a good head of hair, why not simply maximize the volume and texture that you were born with. That said, when a man is willing to work with his natural texture, it may just mean that he takes an easygoing approach to life in general. No need for too much structure or complication, and certainly not a stiff personality. Far better to go with the flow, but always with a level of refinement.

Taken a step further into a textured quiff that adds a bit of height at the top of the head, and the hairstyle gets another layer of meaning that contributes some heartthrob fun to the mix for those who like to get their GQ on every once in awhile.

7. The bald

Bald and beautiful — isn't that what they say? There are two reasons you have this hair cut (or lack thereof): You are battling a receding hairline, or you are a general badass and are channeling Vin Diesel. Shaving your head is one of the best ways to hide hair loss — instead of hiding your head from the crowd — but it's also one of the quickest ways to debut your dynamic, daring side, even if you previously had a full head of hair.

8. The lob

Currently trending among the female set, the lob isn't without an audience when it comes to men. In fact, over the past few seasons, we've seen no shortage of longer locks to go with that grown-out facial hair. Guys with hair that would make girls envious are particularly well-disposed to the long man bob, and the look generally betrays a more rebellious edge and is common among the more artistic or adventuring set. Yet the lob is all about good rebels with a cause. No, you may not be as clean-cut as your, ahem, more straight-laced, nine-to-five peers. But you don't want to be — you're as free-spirited as those flowing strands. Man buns are also common here, which only means that the bun-wearer is even more of a non-conformist — with a bohemian side, too.
